HelpTechTeens

HelpTech Teens Is a structured program for disadvantaged or disabled teens that combines standardized classroom instruction with real world work experience in the Computer Technology Industry. It uses an apprenticeship type model in which participants apply the knowledge gained in the classroom to six primary computer industry areas. Participants will have an opportunity to test and strengthen their computer skills and learn about a variety of possible career paths in the Computer/Information Technology Industry.

HelpTech AmeriCorps

HelpTech AmeriCorps - Trained AmeriCorps members help implement many of the support services provided through our KidTech, CommuniTech, and HelpTech programs to: improve the delivery of human services programs by improving the efficiency of the technical infrastructure of non-profit community learning centers, agencies, recreation centers, libraries and schools through installation and oversight of the CommuniTech Remote Diagnostic Network; and improve the development of labor sources by improving the access, maintenance, and communication aspects of education and technology pgrams for individual end users in low-income areas.

AbilityTech Teens

AbilityTech-Teens is a structured program for individuals with learning difficulties/disabilities that combines standardized classroom instruction in Computer and Assistive Technology with community service work experiences.  Participants will have the opportunity to test and apply skills obtained through the instruction via a number of community service projects and will learn how to utilize these skills in their future educational and employment pursuits.

Community Computer Academy

The Community Computer Academy is a program supported by the City of Rochester’s CommuniTech Program & The Microsoft Corporation through a Microsoft “Unlimited Potentials” Grant.  Modeled after the highly successful City of Rochester’s “KidTech Program” and using Microsoft Curriculum, The Community Computer Academy is a grass roots effort to provide fundamental computer skills training for City of Rochester adults (over 17 years of age) over a five-week period, in their own neighborhoods.  Training topics include: Computing Basics; How to Operate And Interact With A Personal Computer; Keyboarding Skills; Using A Word-processor to Create Resumes And Letters; How To Search And Use The Internet For Personal, Educational, & Work Opportunities; and How To Obtain And Use Your Own Free e-Mail Account.  Graduates not having a computer at home will qualify for a free refurbished computer system.  The programmed is provided at growing number of community sites and is delivered through the Academy’s Distance Learning Initiative.

The ArtsReach Initiative

The ArtsReach Initiative is designed to provide video and musical arts programming to segments of the community that have limited access to arts programming, including but not limited to: physically, emotionally, mentally, and developmentally disabled youth and adults; urban and suburban youth who have been identified as “at risk”; senior citizens; incarcerated youth and adults; and individuals and families affected by substance abuse.

Clic-On-Health

Clic-on-Health for Seniors - CLIC-on-Health – Community and Library Information Collaborative on Health – is a partnership coordinated by librarians that brings together libraries, health organizations and associations, healthcare delivery systems, and educational institutions.  Its purpose is to provide all the people of the greater Rochester area, including Monroe, Ontario, Livingston, Wyoming, and Wayne Counties, with the high-quality information and resources they need to make wise lifestyle and healthcare choices. The Academy will assist this organization in establishing computer labs at up to 17 Senior Centers.  It will assist with recommendation, acquisition, and installation of appropriate computer equipment including assistive technology for each location.  Through its CommuniTech Program, the Academy will also provide ongoing support through a helpdesk operation, remote diagnostic service, and repair and maintenance services.

e-BUS

e-BUS - Is a tentative conversion of The Academy Friendship Express Van to a mobile computer learning lab facility. Target audiences include but are not limited to: Community Based Organizations, Neighborhood Centers, and Residential Facilities that provide educational and support services to Rochester/Monroe County underserved Communities. Possible target applications include internet access for all age groups, career training, a mobile KidTech lab, remote classroom for basic education programs, and a possible mobile communications center for emergency and non-emergency community situations. The Academy will manage the program and seek other collaborative partners to provide needed assets and services
