PC Remanufacturing Center Program
The CommuniTech Computer Remanufacturing Center is a program of the Academy for Career Development. Our role is to find and recycle computers that will be used to reward individuals, both young and old, for completing one of the Academy’s educational programs. The computers we remanufacture are given to those most in need of computer technology. Through computer training and the gift of free computer equipment, we are enabling citizens to bridge the digital divide. Over the past several years we have placed and supported over 2500 refurbished computer systems in the homes of disadvantaged families and local community and faith based organizations.
Donating unused working computers makes sense in several ways. First, it allows older computers to begin a new lease on life in the homes of needy Rochester residents. Second, by donating working computers to us it avoids any disposal charges encountered when scrapping old equipment. Third, by giving old computer equipment to us for recycling and redeployment it protects the environment by delaying the eventual trip to the landfill. Please only bring us working Pentium III computers or above so you don’t pass your disposal problem along to us.
All space and utilities for the CommuniTech’s Computer Remanufacturing Center are provided through the generosity of the City of Rochester. The remanufacturing center has been in existence since 2003, and accepts equipment donations from individuals and corporations. The Academy is Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher (MAR). Our computers, via the Academy, meet all MAR standards and guidelines when refurbishing donated computers. Operating Systems and Applications Software installed on all remanufactured computers are provided either directly through the MAR Program or through our Microsoft Unlimited Potentials Grant. All remanufacturing is performed by CommuniTech Computer Support Specialist Apprentices and volunteers supervised by CommuniTech Technical Support Managers.
