NYS Education Department Approved Vocational Programs Statistics(Most Recent Statistics) - From July 1, 2005 through June 30, 2007, 32 students enrolled in The Academy’s NYS approved Vocational Certificate Programs. 89.5% of the participants were male and 10.5% female. Their average age was 36.3 years. 81% were persons with disabilities. All were living at or below 200% of the federal poverty level and were receiving some form of public assistance. Program distributions for these students were 38% (12/32) in the Basic Computer Skills Program, 9% (3/32) in the Office Information Coordinator (OIC) Program, 34% (11/32) in the Client Support Technician (CST) Program, and 19% (6/32) in the Computer Support Specialist/A+ for Technicians Program. As of June 30, 2007 three (3) students were still participating in their programs. Therefore, 29 students were available for completion and employment analysis. Of these 29 students, 86% (25/29) successfully completed their programs, and 14% (4/29) withdrew from their programs. Of those who successfully completed their programs, 84% (20/25) were employed or elected to continue their education, 4% (1/25) were still seeking employment, and 12% (3/25) were unavailable for employment. All 20 employed graduates obtained jobs in fields directly related to their Academy Programs. The Academy received tuition funding from VESID or Rochester Works for 13 (40.6%) of the students. The remainder of the students (59.4%) participated in their program for free. The average starting salary for all employed students was $11.47/hour. The highest paying jobs were with IT Contract Companies ($14.75/hr.). It is also interesting to note that of the employed graduates, 3 (15%) enrolled in part time college programs (evening and/or online) and received up to 24 credit hours (SUNY Empire State College) for their vocational programs at the Academy. |
